Noise pollution
Although this type of pollution is not very recognized, in more recent years noise pollution has become a very big issue in very populated, or industrialized nations and areas. India over the past years has become more populated and more industrialized, so it is a very loud and busy country. Causes of noise pollution can vary from loud noises coming from factories, to the noise generated from cars, trains, and aircrafts. A normal conversation averages about 60 decibels, and at 80 decibels is when it becomes physically painful. In India, some cities average over 80 decibels, especially Kolkata and Chennai record 87 and 89 decibels. A train can produce screeches of over 120 decibels from 100 feet away which can cause bad headaches. And since India is one of the most crowded countries in the world, there is a lot of noise produced from trains, cars, and normal conversations. Another huge cause of noise is barking dogs which account for most of the noise complaints in India. Barking dogs are a hard problem to solve because there is not a lot you can do about a loud dog besides try to train it.
Noise pollution in India can cause high blood pressure, permanent or temporary deafness, lack of concentration which reduces efficiency of people especially in the workplace, and can negatively affect pregnancy. There are multiple laws that the Indian government has passed to try and control the noise levels throughout the country, but they have not succeeded solving the issue. Other ways to try and reduce noise pollution in India other than passing laws would be to educate people about noise pollution, and to try to get them to reduce the volume of their speaking and to not have speakers and radio as high. Also manufacturers could significantly lower the noise volume in cities by developing less noisy machines for their factories. If incentives were offered to businesses from the government to develop these less noisy machines then businesses would probably be more inclined to invest in this idea then if nothing was offered to them. Many steps can be taken to attempt to reduce sound levels in India, but it is hard to get people to change their loud habits and get them to be quieter, especially in the second most populated countries in the world.
